Western Nevada Fish Reports

The lake is fishing very well right now

by THE FLY SHOP
Fishing conditions:  Great Report: The lake is fishing very well right now. This weather has the fish cruising the shoreline dropoffs looking for whatever they can get their mouths around. If you are going, your Moo Midge or Balanced Leech could be what they eat. Basically, that is the gam right now, keep a dark Balanced Leech or Chrinomid Bomber under an indicator and in the water.

Fishing has been very good for casting the rocky areas for rainbows

by DOUG BUSEY
Fishing has been very good for casting the rocky areas for rainbows. Jigging has been good for decent mackinaws ranging 3 to 5 lbs. Best areas have been on the south west side of the lake from Camp Richardson to Emerald bay. Some anglers have also had good success on the north end of the lake.  Jason sent me a few pictures of his catches

The sunny weather sure hasn't helped the fishing at Pyramid Lake lately

by RENO FLY SHOP
The sunny weather sure hasn't helped the fishing at Pyramid Lake lately. Forecasts are calling for a light storm system late into the weekend that should kick things into gear. Clouds can also help greatly this time of the year so we’ll see how weather plays out. Even on the sunny days fish are being caught in the low light periods.  The Holo Midge bite is

Fishing over the past week on the Truckee River has been good

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fishing over the past week on the Truckee River has been good with the warmer weather we’ve had. Highs in the 60’s feels a bit unusual for this time of year but fish have certainly responded well. The Blue Winged Olive hatch is going strong now, with some days better than others. Cloud cover is crucial for good dry fly fishing in the winter on

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
While the fishing out here still remained a bit day to day this week, we’ve been hearing a lot more positive reports at the lake lately. The bite window is still mostly in the morning or mid-morning, slowing down in the afternoons most days, but we are seeing better numbers in both amount of fish as well as size.    Historically these next 3 months are some

The extended stable conditions on the Truckee over the last few weeks has made for good flows

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The extended stable conditions on the Truckee over the last few weeks has made for good flows, clear water and steadily rising water temps. The fishing has been really good and if you were one of the lucky few to think about fishing the river in January during this extended high-pressure system, kudos to you! This will change starting Sunday, the forecasted storm is supposed

If inclement weather approaches, fishing can be good on big blue

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
On Lake Tahoe, most boat ramps are closed. Not much to report this week. If inclement weather approaches, fishing can be good on big blue.

Mostly rainbows are being caught in the canyon area with not many brown trout being reported

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Current Water Conditions With the recent precipitation, flows on the Truckee River right now are slightly higher than normal for the winter season—holding around 76 CFS out of Tahoe City, 220 CFS through the Glenshire area, and 503 CFS at Farad. The bite is slower this time of year, but can still be rewarding for anyone wanting to make the trek in the colder weather.

The dock at North Shore Marina and 1 dock at the Silver Springs Boat Ramp are open

by LAHONTAN STATE RECREATION AREA
Have you been eagerly waiting for the boat docks to get placed in the water? Well, wait no further! The dock at North Shore Marina and 1 dock at the Silver Springs Boat Ramp have been placed in the water. The reservoir is at approximately 150,000 acre feet. Please continue to watch for navigational hazards. Before you launch your vessel make sure you have all

We are still seeing the bite remain a bit day-to-day out here

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We are still seeing the bite remain a bit day-to-day out here, due in large to the lack of weather this year. There’s still a good opportunity most days to find fishing during the morning bite window, but typically this will die off mid-day, and the evening bite has been spotty. Focus on getting on the water during that hour before sunup and fish hard

The Truckee has been fishing very well this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee has been fishing very well this week. This is such a great time to live in the area and have the opportunity to go fish the river on a whim, with few others around and plenty of fired up fish! With the fish holding in slow water right now, indicator fishing is the name of the game, focus on walking speed water or

Lake Tahoe Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
Talking with my friend and fellow angler Jason Blanchette. Their last trip out they trolled Rapalas early and caught a few mackinaws. Then they switched to Blades and a live minnow (which using live minnows, they have to be caught in the lake. you cannot bring in from another source) They ended up catching 12 mac's with the biggest weighing in at 8lbs. Jason took

The lake level has come up a few feet

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has come up a few feet. There were fish all over the lake. Which we pickup on my scanner. We trolled various Rapalas in f3's f5's and j7's in various patterns with only a few strikes and one to the boat. I spoke with a few other anglers and they had the same luck. Reminder that if you use the park area

Winter Fly Fishing Clinic on the Truckee River through the Nature Conservancy in Nevada. We will rendezvous to different access spots, and learn how to fish the Truckee River in Nevada. This has been quite a different year than last year, which we can only blame on the lack of weather so far this winter

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The fishing at Pyramid remains slow this week and with sunny, windless days in the forecast, we can’t imagine things improving in the near future. This has been quite a different year than last year, which we can only blame on the lack of weather so far this winter. We are still hopeful there will be a window of some great fishing out here this

Fishing here on the California side has been picking up this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Fishing here on the California side has been picking up this week. The nymph fishing using worms, baetis and midges has been great, and there has been some opportunity for throwing dries at the Glenshire Bridge area using baetis and midges mid-day. When fishing up high in the system, such as in the town of Truckee, focus on fishing the warmest points of the day.

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by THE FLY SHOP
Fishing conditions:  Great Report: With continued unsettled weather patterns bombing us here in California, that means this lake is fishing great! The dinosaur fish are eating Tui chubs and big midge patterns, basically put it in front of them and hang on! Good flies would be Zach's Pyramid Minnow in Tui chub and white. Balanced Leeches tied in lighter colors, Pyramid Bombers, Moo Midges, etc. This season

Another long dry spell for the Sierra's, and the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Another long dry spell for the Sierra's, and the Truckee River, ugh. Super mild afternoons, and very cold at night. Very stagnant weather pattern.  With the cold overnight lows, best to start a bit later in the morning. On the Nevada side, don't really matter to much as it's not nearly as cold at night near Reno.  You're gonna have some pretty low water temps on the

The fishing has been good to fair

by DOUG BUSEY
The fishing has been good to fair. Most angler have been fishing shallow along the Camp Richardson area to Taylor Creek. They have been using a silver dodger followed 18 to 24 inches behind with a live minnow. Some angler have had good success with F9 black and silver Rapalas off of downriggers. For more information call 775-233-5055 or go to Rubyjeancharters.com.

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake has come up about 4 ft since my last trip down there. The boat ramp is open and clear. The center dock is the only one available right now. I fished this week with long time fellow angler Don from Carson City.  We started trolling about 9:30 and fished until 2pm. I could see big schools of fish everywhere. But the bite was

It has been very cold here

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The California side of the EW is closed for Winter, just the Nevada side is open now. We haven't had any new news from the East Walker lately, it has been very cold here, if you watch the flows on the river you've noticed that it's been bumped up to about 33 cfs from 22 cfs, the reason for this is because it's been so
