Western Nevada Fish Reports

Decent mackinaw bite going on

by DOUG BUSEY
I checked in with Jason from Ruby Jean Charters today. He reports a decent Mackinaw bite. They were using live minnows behind blades — the fish weren’t hitting any of the lures. The mackinaw action picked up into midday as the sun warmed things up. They also caught a few browns and rainbows up in the shallows off the rocks. For more info or to book

The bite has been slow in the mornings but picks up as the sun gets higher

by DOUG BUSEY
The bite has been slow in the mornings but picks up as the sun gets higher. Trollers are using flashers and crawlers or various Rapalas. Shore anglers are having the best luck on the south end with salmon peach or chartreuse PowerBait. Inflated crawlers have also been working. Use caution early in the morning — there’s been a little ice on the lake and at the

It is windy and cold, and that means the ancient lake is fishing well

by THE FLY SHOP
It is windy and cold, and that means the ancient lake is fishing well. The Lahontans are eating Tui chubs for the time being. Good flies would be Zach's Pyramid Minnow in Tui chub and white. Balanced Leeches tied in lighter colors can work as well. From here on out you can fish the big midges and Balanced Leeches. This season is looking to be

Some nice fish lurking around

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
Some nice fish lurking around, but don’t miss those bites! You never know what could be sucking down that orange ball. Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
This November has been quite different than the last, due in large to the lack of storms pushing through the area. Right now, the fishing out here is much more day-to-day, with the stormy days certainly being the best, but on the occasional sunny day still seeing fair fishing, if you’re in the right place at the right time. Of course for this lake, right

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
These cold mornings have made the bite window on the Truckee a bit more limited as of lately. Getting on the water around 10-11am and fishing through the warmest point of the day will be the name of the game until things warm up again in spring.    With the lack of precipitation, we are doing best fishing little black stuff right now and not so much

The Shore Bite Season is Upon Us

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
Some days they are in hot and heavy and full of gravy.  But were you paying attention when your bobber disappeared?  Were you fast enough to?!  Or did they catch you sleeping?  It’s been a decent bite on the nice weather days, and pretty good during the storm systems.  I just heard a guy down the beach a few hundred years holler as he stuck

Mid November On-the-Water Report from Pyramid Lake

by RENO FLY SHOP
Your OTW report from Pyramid Lake! The lake is at 52°F. The LCT are eating their traditional feed for this time of year.  Balanced leeches have been very productive in darker colors while the retrieve bite has slowed some on clear days it picks up noticeably on the stormier periods. We have dates available in December and during peak season. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to

Shore bite is getting better daily

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
While the shore bite is getting better daily, it is a bit temperamental still as the nicer days drive the fish out into deeper water. The stormy days will be what you will want to focus on right now, overcast all day, winds 10+ MPH, and cooler air temps are all important factors when looking at planning a day out here.   Most days the balanced leech

Flows are incredibly good along the entire system

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
With the rain/snow mix over the last week we did see the river come up and get a bit off color for a short while. As of today the water has cleared back up and the flows have stabilized. Overall, for this time of year, the flows are incredibly good along the entire system. Just under 300 CFS in Glenshire, around 450 below Boca, 450

Rain and mountain snow on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Rain and mountain snow on the Truckee River. It's that time of year. We always need it.  Pretty warm storms so the rivers been up and down. Feels pretty mild out actually.  As far as the fishing goes, cloud and rain makes excellent fishing. Some rivers fish good on the rise, and some good on the drop. I like it on a slight rise, but I really

The Sceirine and Rosachi sections have both been fishing well lately

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
Well, it's all over but the cryin'! The CA side of the EW is now closed for the season. The Sceirine section and the rest of the Nevada side are open all year long. The Sceirine and Rosachi sections have both been fishing well lately with quote a few good reports coming in from both. Streamers and nymphs have both been doing well down there,

It has started this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
It has started this week. The shore fishing at Pyramid has been reported to be “fairly consistent” over the last few days. With the week of foul weather expected to push through the area, it’s safe to say the ‘25/’26 shore fishing season at Pyramid is on!   Early season, we recommend focusing on balanced leeches and balanced baitfish patterns under the indicator as the fish are

The Fishing on the Truckee has been really great this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Fishing on the Truckee has been really great this week, with the temps on the river in their ideal range and the flows very stable. This, and the mild weather has made for excellent conditions for both the trout and the angler; an often small section of the fishing Venn diagram. This will change a bit this week with rain/snow mix in the forecast.

Finding the LCT at shallower depths

by RENO FLY SHOP
It’s been a warm fall, but water temps are dropping quickly. Surface temperatures started the day around 55° and were only 57° by the end of a recent trip. We are seeing a lot of Daphnia along the shore. The trout are eating those as well as anything they can get their mouths on. To imitate Daphnia, a notoriously difficult prey item to imitate, I

Fly fishing on the Truckee River has been great through the first half of November

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fly fishing on the Truckee River has been great through the first half of November. Fish are keying on a variety of food sources and have started to congregate in slower water. It looks like we have a storm coming in before the weekend. This should raise the river slightly and put some color in it.  The brown trout spawn is well underway on the Nevada

The lake is still producing fish when you can get out

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake is still producing fish when you can get out. Jointed Rapalas in black and silver have been most productive. If you’re using lead core line, use an F5 or F6 black/silver or perch pattern. Shore anglers have done fair off the north end of the lake with PowerBait or inflated nightcrawlers.

The lake flipped last week, and the fish are dispersed amongst most of the water colum

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The lake flipped last week, and the fish are dispersed amongst most of the water column right now. With a cold, windy storm this week and another substantial storm pushing through next week, we predict the shore bite to start up next week.   For those heading out this week, using a boat or a float tube with a fast sinking line and small tui chub pattern

The Truckee continues to kick out some stellar fishing

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee continues to kick out some stellar fishing. With stable, above average flows, and good water clarity along the entire river, fishing is good pretty much everywhere right now. From Tahoe City to out past Sparks, there’s good trout fishing to be had on the majority of the Truckee, and this combined with the light crowds makes now a great time to explore some

The lake is cooling and this weather system will have them cruising closer to shore

by THE FLY SHOP
Anglers rolling back through the shop all have big grins and some nice pictures of fish. The lake is cooling and this weather system will have them cruising closer to shore, so get the ladders and waders out. The Lahontans are eating Tui chubs for the time being. Good flies would be Zach's Pyramid Minnow in Tui chub and white. Balanced Leeches tied in lighter

Good Fall fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Flows have remained good, at least below Boca, and the weather has been mild. Look for the weather to change this week and look more like Winter at times, but nothing to extreme yet.  Flows are about 460 here in Hirschdale, and about 500 cfs East of Reno. That's very good for us this late in the year.  Cold overnight lows in Truckee. Start a bit later
