Western Nevada Fish Reports

Fishing has been excellent this summer

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been excellent this summer for both bass and trout at Wall Canyon reservoir. Access seems to be good for now and should stay that way unless we see some good rainfall or snow. The reservoir is fishing well at both the inlet and the dam with spoons and spinners. Jigs near deep drop-offs and off rocky points are still producing some good smallmouth

The Truckee has hung on pretty well through the summer

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The Truckee has hung on pretty well through the summer but now very low. Flows are roughly 50 cfs in Reno upstream to the stateline and 100 cfs east of Reno. If flows hang on fishing should be good this fall and winter east of town. Lockwood is an excellent place to fish the east Truckee River if you’ve never done it. Fly fisherman will

Excellent reports coming from Onion

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Excellent reports coming from Onion. Definitely one of the best fishing reservoirs this season in Nevada. Catch rates continue to be excellent with some trout to 14”-16” reported recently. Spin fisherman using small spinner, jigs, and spoons are finding fish in deeper water and away from vegetation. Fly fisherman trolling woolly buggers and leech patterns behind float tubes in deeper water are hooking up all

The cooler temperatures are starting to slow fishing at Rye Patch

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The cooler temperatures are starting to slow fishing at Rye Patch. This summer was one of the best for smallmouth bass at Rye Patch. Although it has slowed significantly, some smallmouth are still being reported in deeper water off points and around structure. Chartreuse and/or white flies and spinners continue to be the most productive colors. Low lake levels have made searching for fish one

The flows on the Truckee River are minimal

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
The flows on the Truckee River are minimal. With flows coming out of Lake Tahoe at around 1 CFS, the upper Truckee River can’t really be fished. Anglers’ should travel down to the Floriston and Farad area, where the flows pick up to around 70 CFS. Anglers should focus on fishing the ripples where there are higher oxygen levels, or fish the deeper poles. Some

We escaped the wind this morning

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
Hue got a nice early morning fish to start the day. We escaped the wind this morning and the fish were happily eating their favorite bait fish.

The weather was much needed

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
The weather was much needed, but the high winds spreads the bait fish and the fish weren’t as podded up today. We want that nice calm water to keep everything balled up. Kinda like the last week shown above. Yesterday was a banger! Today was a quite a bit tougher. In October we want mellow weather. But, you can’t catch em from the couch.

Opening weekend was a good one with the lake fishing well

by THE FLY SHOP
Opening weekend was a good one with the lake fishing well. It has slowed some since, the Cutties are deeper chasing the chubs. For consistent action you will need to get out on a boat to access the deeper water. Look for the lake to flip in the coming weeks, consistent cold weather will make this happen and the fish will be accessible for the

Last few days been fantastic!

by MIKE NIELSEN
Last few days been fantastic. Rainbows, Cutthroat, Kokanee and big numbers of lakers.     If you fish deep you can beat up on the spawners but the meat is soft as they are providing nutrients to eggs and milt, go mid depths from 35-65 over 80 ft and strong numbers of 1-3 lb Mack’s not mature enough to spawn but firm orange meat great for table fare

Pyramid Lake Opener Report and Podcast

by BEARFISH ALLIANCE STAFF
This year’s opener at Pyramid Lake was both spectacular and unforgettable! The weather was perfect and the LCT’s were on the prowl chowing on baitballs. Our team netted a total of around 65 fish, all at ranging depths depending on what time of day it was (15 feet in early morning/evening and 35+ midday). Not to much shore fishing as we were chasing the baitballs

Full boat this morning

by HANS MOXLEY
Full boat this morning Bite was a bit off though, probably in front of this storm coming our way. We got most of them, some real nice one's too

Low flows in town, but further up the system has plenty of water

by RENO FLY SHOP
Still looking at low flows in town, but further up the system has plenty of water. We’re moving fish on streamers, but the fish are not quite ready to commit to them just yet. Nymphing with light bobber rigs or ESN has been productive with smaller nymphs in a myriad of water speeds. I’ve been fishing more in the morning and noticing fish sitting in
