Days Are Getting Colder & Fish Are Frequenting The Shallows More Often

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
All of our awesome clients make guiding a truly amazing job! And we have some bad ass return clients that continue to come out and improve their skills and top personal bests time and time again.     Dale stuck a hot Pilot to start off the morning. The days are getting cooler and the fish are frequenting the shallows more often.

Partnership Restores Flows to Little Washoe Lake

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Washoe County, NV- Little Washoe Lake water levels are now recovering after the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) worked with partners to repair a water diversion ditch that feeds the Washoe Lakes system, which includes Big and Little Washoe Lakes, as well as the Scripps Wildlife Management Area (WMA) that lies between. Little Washoe and portions of the Scripps WMA dried up during summer 2021 due

Mackinaw are in full spawn mode

by DOUG BUSEY
Mackinaw are in full spawn mode. Larger fish from 4-10 lbs are being caught from 140-220 ft down across the south shore. Smaller immature mackinaw have moved up and fish from 1-3 lbs can be caught in 20-40 ft water as they are corralling bait. The larger fish are full of eggs and milt and meat is off color. Smaller fish not mature to spawn

No Annual Fishing Derby This Year

by DOUG BUSEY
I spoke with the Topaz Lodge and they will not be having their annual fishing derby this year. The lake level has come up with our recent rainfall. The NDOW has planted the lake this week with 9500 rainbow trout. Fishing has been good to fair with our ever changing weather patterns. The Douglas County boat ramp is open. Reminder to those who may not

Great Morning on The Lake

by HANS MOXLEY
Wow !!! Great morning to be fishing. Thanks bud for coming out with me

With the lake cooling off we will begin to see the larger fish coming out to play

by THE FLY SHOP
Some fish are now being picked up near shore on the drop offs, but to get into any good numbers you will need to be in a tube or pontoon to get out deeper. With the lake cooling off we will begin to see the larger fish coming out to play. The Zack's Pyramid Minnow in Tui Chub, the Popcorn Beetle, Moo Midges and just

Fishing is downright real good on The Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
We’re finally having a real Fall in the Truckee/Lake Tahoe/Reno area. The kind where it’s cold, and you actually feel like you live in the mountains. It definitely ain’t t-shirt weather like the last few years. Looks like November is shaping up to be cold and wet too. Thank God. Fishing is downright real good. Over 500 cubes here in the Hirsch on the Truckee River.

Late October Pyramid Lake Report

by RENO FLY SHOP
Not sure how much Pyramid Lake raised over the week but can imagine it was measurable. Earlier in the week many of the beaches had muddy water conditions from tributary runoff. If you pull up to your favorite beach and find it uniformly muddy it might be best to pick another spot. If however, you can see a clearly defined boundary between muddy and clear

Truckee River: After The Storm Report

by RENO FLY SHOP
At the downtown Reno gage the river is just over 500 cfs after peaking over 5,000 cfs at the downtown gage during last weekends historic storm. It was great to see water in the river again and we will take whatever we can get whenever we can get it.  The fishing conditions have continued to improve through the week as water begins to clear and the

We’re back in business on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
We’re back in business on the Truckee River. Sorry for the lack of reports. My web site has been jacked for the last few months. I finally got it worked out, and will keep up on the reports again once I get this new WordPress theme figured out. There wasn’t shit to report anyways, we had no water. Thankfully, through a miracle, we got hammered

Late October Pyramid Lake Report

by BEARFISH ALLIANCE STAFF
This is always the challenging time of the season at Pyramid, and as hot as the opener was we have seen the tapering off of the bite as we progress through the month of October. Most of us may have been chasing baitballs early on, and that was because a combination of things were happening; steady barometric pressure, low winds, and happy Cutties chowing on

The lake is in transition right now

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
As we these large storm systems push into the area the water temperature is dropping, the bait balls are spreading out and so are the fish. The lake is in transition right now while water temperatures drop and the fish start slowly moving in. These cool systems will shorten this typical “slow” season as the temps drop. With November right around the corner we are

Topaz Lake Report

by DOUG BUSEY
Reminder of the new regulations this year. The lake will not close to fishing and is open all year long now. I have a message into the Topaz Lodge to see if they will be holding their annual fishing derby on January 1st 2022.

The flows on the Truckee River are minimal from the upper river to Boca Reservoir

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
The flows on the Truckee River are minimal from the upper river to Boca Reservoir. Anglers are recommended to fish from Boca to Stateline only because this is the only available water with depth. Anglers should focus on fishing the ripples or deeper pools where the oxygen levels are higher. Use low water techniques, light lines, and fish small flies like size 18 baetis nymphs,

Catfish have been biting very well

by PYRAMID LAKE STAFF
Catfish have been biting very well all around the lake and from the shoreline, mainly in the canal by the entrance booth or off the points past the swim beach area on various cut baits such as anchovies, sardines and nightcrawlers. Stripers have also been biting well on different lures like jerkbaits, top waters, and spoon or trolling deeper diving jerk baits and kastmasters around

Hooked Up Sportfishing Checks In

by HANS MOXLEY
It got windy real fast out there today. Luckily the fish were a bit in a hurry as well...... Nice fish guys.

Days like today are what it’s all about.

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
The stoke is real with young Kainoa! At 13 this kid is a stick and has the perfect smack talking attitude to back it up. Fits right in! And he wasn’t shy letting his dad know who was kicking who’s ass this afternoon. Year 2 with the boys and it gets more fun each and every time. Days like today are what it’s all about.

This is a good time of year to find larger rainbows and browns near the surface

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
A few reports of small macs with the colder temps. This is a good time of year to find larger rainbows and browns near the surface, making them accessible to shore anglers. Look for moving shadows early and late in the day around larger structure. Shore anglers are using smaller spinners for planted trout and larger spoons for larger rainbows and browns. Toplining for large

Washoe Lake Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Low water will making fishing tough in Washoe this fall and winter.

Fall is an excellent time to fish Squaw

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fall is an excellent time to fish Squaw. Fishing can be productive through the winter months especially on the northwest portion of the reservoir where warm springs keep water temperatures up.  Fishing for rainbow and brown trout in the deeper portions of the reservoir in the winter can also be productive in areas free of ice. Anglers can get away with fairly large flies and
