The water level is coming up slowly. Be careful while boating the lake, there is still some debri on the lake from the intake from the Walker River. The east shore had no snow on its banks. We hope all is well as we start off the new year. Our local angler Gerry Ward has been keeping us up to date with the trout bite and showing off a limit of our rainbow trout. Gerry landed these rainbows while fishing from shore using a green colored trout jig. He will sometimes add a bright colored mouse tail to his dark colored jig.

All the reservoirs are covered with thin ice. The ice this week is unsafe to venture out on. Please use extreme caution and avoid cloudy-colored ice, as the less clear the ice, the more potentially hazardous it is. Stay off anything less than 4-inches thick; even thicker if you are in a group. Shore fishing is limited to open water, which varies each day.

Striped bass in the one-to-three-pound range are taking anchovies along the shorelines of the Colorado River. Pencil Poppers and Glide Baits are taking hits from larger fish. Black bass are hiding in deep pockets. Some anglers are having luck tempting them with ChatterBaits and flashy spinners. Look for trout hiding in underwater vegetation and boulders, in small pools along the shoreline, or within other areas

Rainbow trout are hungry for trout jigs and grubs at Willow Beach. Striper action is hit and miss, but patient anglers are landing double-digit fish on trout-patterned swimbaits. On the lake, boaters are trolling jointed swimbaits and throwing Whopper Ploppers for a striped bass hookup. Black bass anglers are reporting success with deep-diving crankbaits and ChatterBaits in deeper coves.
