Nevada Fish Reports

Anglers are finding good fishing for rainbow trout. Some are taking home limits of the tasty fish. The fish are taking PowerBait, night crawlers, and emerger flies. Largemouth bass are hitting plastics and crankbaits. Bass are catch-and-release only through June 30. Campgrounds are limited to half capacity.

Water levels and aquatic plant growth are affecting some access for shore anglers. Largemouth bass and crappies have been hitting well on jigs and plastics. Trout action is good in the morning and slows as afternoon temperatures climb toward 90 degrees. Campgrounds are limited to half capacity.

Striped bass are biting just south of Davis Dam and south through the  Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area. Anglers are reporting that fish weighing up to 14 pounds are taking anchovies fished from boat or shore. Catfish can be found hiding in the shadows of vegetation along the shoreline of the river. Anglers fishing for striped bass are reportedly catching large fish with trout swimbaits thrown from shore. The bite picks up in the early morning hours but slows considerably during the midday hours. Kayakers are catching rainbow trout in the deeper water. Saturday (June 13) is Free Fishing Day but due to COVID-19 there will be no special events this year. The Nevada Department of Wildlife has recently planted both catfish and bluegill. Both the catfish and bluegill are taking corn and night crawler pieces. Fishing is best in the morning when the parks open or towards sunset where access is available. Shore anglers are reporting largemouth bass, catfish and striper catches throughout the Overton Arm and down to Callville Bay. Try anchovies for a catfish or striper bite and soft plastics for largemouth. In Government Wash, smallmouth bass activity has picked up. The fish are taking a variety of jigs and soft plastics. Look where we live. Couldn't resist as the Striper bite is starting to go well both up Lake Mohave and here along the Colorado river.  Our local anglers Muzzaffar Pana ( Muzz for short) and fishing buddy Mark Aguilar. They were fishing from shore near the dam up on Lake Mohave using anchovies. One of the stripers weighed in at 9.62 pounds at 31 and 1/2 inches and another of the stripers weighed in at 6.5/8 pounds at 27 and 7/8 inches. I have heard that a few stripers were being picked up near the coves by the power lines and on the Nevada side at telephone cove.  Here below the Davis dam along the shores of the Colorado river our striper bite is picking up. we are getting a few in the 1 to 5 pound range. Various lures are working great mostly in the trout pattern and some of the bone or white top water poppers or jerk baits. The casino area and our community park are great areas for throwing out a line. Our local angler Ben Aleman was taking advantage of the time off and camping out on the Nevada side in the big bend area and landed a nice 4.86 pound striper at 25 and 1/2 inches. Ben was fishing form shore and using anchovies. Ben is our local martial art instructor (fort Mohave martial arts) and works as an engineer at one of the casinos. I did get some news of some striper activity a bit down river near the nature center. This is a great spot to fish and just to visit with some nice trails and the observation towere to get a great look over the area.  The marsh area is getting some catfish activity so anchovies or chicken livers should do the trick to bring them in. Usually its channel cat fish with a chance of a flathead. Hope this helps for now and we look forward to seeing you in to share that catch and story. Most of all thanks for all of your support. Now Go Catch A Fish
