Nevada Fish Reports

Cold temperatures have given the reservoir a fresh coat of ice, making much of it available for ice fishing. For up-to-date ice conditions contact Echo Canyon State Park at 775-962-5103.  

Whether fishing from the shoreline or from boats, anglers are catching trout and striped bass below Davis Dam.  Small stripers weighing from 1 to 3 pounds are hitting on cut anchovies.  The best fishing is being found downstream through Casino Row to just above the Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area. Rainbow trout are biting on worms, PowerBait, and Mice Tails.

Anglers trolling with 8- to 9-inch swimbaits are catching stripers weighing between 5 and 8 pounds. Anglers fishing out of Willow Beach Marina are finding stripers in deep water along cliff faces. Reports have also been good for stripers above Davis Dam at the south end of the reservoir. Stripers in the 4- to 7-pound class are taking plastics and anchovies.  

Stocked Rainbow Trout remain active and are taking PowerBait, Power Eggs and mealworms at most of the ponds.  With the colder overnight temperatures the action should be better later in the morning and into the early afternoon hours.  

Sunny skies are in the forecast heading into the weekend. Live shad are the key to catching striped bass. You can find the baitfish in Vegas Wash area, but threadfin shad seem to outnumber gizzard shad. Anglers trolling with lures in the Boulder Basin are using Shad Raps and Spinnows.

Our striper bite here along the Colorado river is still a bit spotty with some action around the casino area and near the Davis Dam.  Both anchovies and your hard baits have a good chance to bring in a fish or two.  Up on Lake Mohave I have heard of some striper activity above the power lines. Located of highway alt 95 between Wabuska and Yerington NV. The area opened to fishing on the second Saturday of February, which was last weekend. Check your regulations to see special rules for each area to fish. The only areas open are Hinkson Slough, Crappie Pond, Bass Pond, North Pond, Walker River and the Cooling ponds. Ice conditions are very good following winter storms that have dropped several inches of snow across the area.  The water coloration has cleared up, making the action for rainbow trout good this week.  Several anglers caught fish through the ice using PowerBait in orange, green or rainbow colorations.  For up-to-date ice conditions contact Spring Valley State Park at 775-962-5102.  

The reservoir is mostly clear of ice, but with temps dropping in the negative numbers overnight, expect thin ice around the shoreline in the mornings making conditions a challenge. For up-to-date ice conditions contact Echo Canyon State Park at 775-962-5103.  

The National Fish Hatchery is stocking rainbow trout weekly below the Willow Beach Fishing Pier. Mornings are proving the best time to catch trout using Rooster Tails or worms.  Anglers are reporting good fishing for striped bass as well as rainbow trout.  Sunset has been the best time to catch striped bass.  

There is no planned trout plant this week at the Las Vegas area urban fishing ponds, but fish were stocked Feb. 7 at Floyd Lamb, Lorenzi, Veterans Memorial and Hafen Parks.  Rainbows are taking PowerBait in a variety of colors, such as rainbow, pink, yellow or orange, as well as night crawler chunks.  

Up on Lake Mohave under 20 inches there is no limit over 20 inches its 20 fish. This can add up when they are getting in the 10 pound range so to some its let the small ones go so they will get bigger and to others its keep the smaller fish so the others will have a better chance to grow.  More good news up on
