All time good on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
All time good on the Truckee River.  Flows are healthy, water temps are perfect, and trouts are happy.  It's that window of time on the river when you don't have to wok for them as hard as usual.  Every bug is hatching, and nymphing with any generic nymph should probably work. This week we should see Green Drakes. Green Drakes is one of the biggest mayflies in the

This week, our local high school’s fishing club was out on the water!

by RUSTY
This week, our local high school’s fishing club was out on the water! Led by mentor Gary Regan, the program takes groups of local kids and adults fishing at various spots along the shores of the Colorado River—completely free of charge. It’s a great opportunity for beginner anglers to learn local fishing techniques. On this outing, the group landed three stripers and had a few more

Striped bass are cruising the deeper water

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Rainbow trout were stocked once again by the hatchery. Anglers were able to catch many rainbows using night crawlers and glitter PowerBaits. Black bass are active again from Cottonwood to Davis Dam. Soft plastics, like chigger

Bluegill and catfish are the main catches at city ponds

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Bluegill and catfish are the main catches at city ponds. Bluegill are biting meal worms and small nightcrawlers throughout the day. Catfish are taking stink baits and night crawlers. A few trout remain in many ponds but are slow to chase as water temperatures rise. Please discard the fishing line in the provided trash bins and receptacles.

Triple-digit temperatures have arrived

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Triple-digit temperatures have arrived which means most anglers are fishing between dusk and dawn. Striped bass in the two to three pound range were hitting topwater lures and cut anchovies. Crankbaits and jigs are tempting largemouth bass in the coves of Boulder Basin. Bluegill and catfish action has been good near 33-Hole for anglers using night crawlers and hot dogs.

Lake Tahoe is fishing great this week!

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Lake Tahoe is fishing great this week! Surface temps are 53–56°F, and calm mornings are ideal for trolling. Mackinaw (lake trout) are active at 30–60 feet, with most catches in the 3–6 lb range and some double digits. Kokanee are starting to show, and rainbows and browns are feeding more aggressively as water warms. Midges and small mayflies are hatching along shorelines early in the

Pyramid Lake’s season is winding down

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Pyramid Lake’s season is winding down, but fishing remains hot in deeper water. Trolling with a boat in 60–90 feet with orange flatfish or spoons around Warrior Point, Monument, and Hell’s Kitchen is producing quality Lahontan cutthroat. Focus on early morning deep trolling for the best results. Anglers using float tubes should be mindful with the wind in the afternoons. The lake closes on June

Consistent Catches on the Truckee

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Current Water Conditions This week, conditions are shaping up nicely on the Truckee River. Flows vary by section—around 75 CFS out of Tahoe City, 275 CFS through Truckee, and peaking at 900 CFS near Farad. While these flows are higher than average for this time of year, they remain manageable for experienced anglers, though wading can be challenging in certain areas. Water clarity is good throughout

The Truckee River is flowing between 800-950cfs at the Reno gauge

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River is flowing between 800-950cfs at the Reno gauge. Despite the somewhat high flows, fishing has picked up significantly in the last week. Water temperatures are increasing, peaking in the high 50s to low 60s in the afternoon. We are beginning to see multiple hatches of our favorite summer bugs. The best fishing has been best between 9am and 1pm most days. Nymph fishing

Perfect time on the Truckee River!

by MATT KOLES
That perfect time on the Truckee River. We get that golden window every year right around now. We'll see how long it lasts, but if the flows and the water temps stay like this, it should stay good, and when I say good, I mean good.  Big fish, small fish ,they're all eating. Eating? Well, any bug that swims is hatching. Golden stones, caddis, pmd. Look

Pyramid Lake 2024-2025 season wrap-up

by RENO FLY SHOP

There is still some great fish to be caught with the approach usually across the lake or in the more difficult to reach depths. Our recommended guide service for fishing Pyamid Lake from a boat is, Lacey's Guide Service. Hans

Warm days on the Truckee

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The warm days on the Truckee have made flows trend upwards, but not really to the point of it hindering the fishing. In fact, as mentioned above, the weather has made the bugs go nuts, and we are getting more topwater eats this week than we have in the last few months. The most exciting of these newly emerging bugs, in our opinion, is the

Trout Stocking Update – Rusty at Riviera Marina

by RUSTY
This time of year, we receive rainbow trout brought in from a hatchery in Colorado—Crowthers Hatchery, to be exact. These trout are stocked to help control the caddis fly population along the shores of the Colorado River, just below Davis Dam. The trout feed on the caddis flies, helping to manage the issue naturally. This effort began after the Willow Beach Hatchery stopped stocking trout, citing

Wildhorse is full and spilling.  Water temps are still sitting in the mid 50s. Trout are moving into the shallows, improving catch rates from shore. Anglers are catching trout averaging 16″ to 22″. Bass fishing should begin to picking up with warm temperatures forecasted into the first week of June. Try targeting bass in the shallows as they prepare to spawn. Topwater lures and bladed

Water temperatures are creeping into the 60s with the warm air temps. Mormon crickets have arrived at the reservoir and are falling into the water. Both trout and bass are hitting the crickets hard. Try mimicking the color and shape of the crickets with your bait or lure. The trout bite has been good following spring stocking efforts. Bait anglers are having the best luck with
