Nevada Fish Reports

The road should be dry but rutted. Plenty of open water for fishing. Fishing is fair for trout. Anglers should use the same presentations and techniques as South Fork.

The road to Angel Lake is closed. There will be no further reports until late next spring or early summer depending upon snow conditions.

Fishing has been fair to good depending upon the day. It seems to be best when there is a slight breeze putting a chop on the water. Anglers have had some success along Jet Ski Beach using prince nymphs and wooly buggers. Other small flies such as hares ears, soft hackles and chironomids should work from shore. Ice is off and Rainbows are taking almost everything thrown at them. Keep in mind that the upper areas of Adams - McGill, Cold Springs, Haymeadow and Dacey - are currently closed due to water fowl nesting. See the NDOW Fishing Guide for any additional regulations.

Water continues to open up here though there is still unsafe ice on the lake. There are places with enough open water to fish from shore. Expect fishing to be fair to good for nine to twelve inch fish using worms, small spinners and PowerBait. Fly rodders should be using small beadhead prince nymphs, hares ears, wooly buggers and Cave Lake specials.

The lake is now ice free and the water level is coming up currently at about 60% of capacity. Fish have been seen dimpling the surface, probably taking midges or mayfly emergers. Fishing should be good on the warmer afternoons.

There is enough open water for shore fishing, but it is still limited. No report on how fishing is.

With no ice left on the surface the water clarity has been improving which in turn has improved the catch rates across the reservoir. One angler throwing small spinners, such as a gold Mepps with red dots, was landing 12 to 14 inch Rainbows. NDOW stocked 15,000 Rainbow and 4,000 tiger trout last week. All facilities are open.

The fishing activity has picked up this past week with the ice disappearing. NDOW planted 10,000 Rainbows into the reservoir. With the exception of the water at the RV loop, all camping facilities are open.

Anglers are finding some success at the upper marsh for panfish and catfish. Mealworms or night crawlers below a bobber will catch fish.

Trout have been on the elusive side but with some technique and good spotting, anglers are doing ok. The Arizona shore in the area is proving to produce some good trout fishing; with a big Rainbow caught recently weighing 3.14 pounds using Pistol Pete trout flies. Due to an equipment failure in its water delivery system, and the subsequent loss of its rainbow trout stocks, the Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery has suspended its recreational fish stocking program, which included weekly fish plants at Willow Beach. The hatchery did save and release approximately 11,000 trout in mid-December. Though their numbers will diminish over time, these and holdover fish from previous plants

Up on Lake Mohave the coves are showing some action and anchovies seem to be working well. The winds are holding a lot of anglers back, but with our weather starting to cooperate that will pick up. Striper fishing has been hit or miss from the Las Vegas wash this last week. Mid-week fishing seems to be the best, most parties caught 20 or more fish. Stripers have been hitting best on live shad. The annual derby is still going strong. Week 9 winners were. Lucas Cunningham from Reno NV with a 4.11 rainbow while Ron Williams from Sparks, Nev. , came in second with a 3.18 pound rainbow. Week 10 was a friend that never invites me to fish with him, Greg Rondy, with a 5.5 pound rainbow trout, while Haul Schlak came in second with a 3.4
