Anglers are catching rainbows & brown trout on any ice free water at Eagle Valley Reservoir

Ice covering the reservoir averages from eight to 12 inches thick, but anglers will find some open water near the dam. Anglers have been catching both rainbow and brown trout, some as long as 14 inches. Most have been fooled by jigs, night crawlers or PowerBait.

There is some open water on Echo Canyon Reservoir and fishermen are doing well in those areas

There is open water along the dam and many anglers have taken advantage of this to use jigs and bobbers to take fish. The best baits have proven to be night crawlers and powerbait.

Late February and early March are traditionally some of the best fishing on this water as largemouth and prepare for the spawn. Despite warmer temperatures and spring-like weather conditions fishing action remains slow overall. However, there have been some reports of good fishing or striped bass from the Muddy river inflow to Echo Bay. The Vegas Wash area also is showing signs that fishing is beginning to improve.

Lake Tahoe Fish Report

Boat anglers are significantly out-performing shore anglers. President’s Derby was won by a 17 pounder caught on the first day. Most of the derby fish were caught near Pelican Point and Warrior Point. Water temperature remains 44 degrees. (775) 476-0400

Before Tuesday’s snow fishing had been good. Boaters were getting limits of trout in the 13 inch class with flashers/nightcrawlers or black/gold Rapalas in the top 10 feet of water. Nothing large. Shore anglers get just shy of limits with nightcrawlers or Power Bait. (775) 266-3550

Fishing is good on the Truckee

Despite the cold snap, fishing was good this weekend on the Truckee River. The winter window of fishing is open, mainly because the flows are stable. It's hard to say what's going to happen down the road. Looks like we are suppose to get hit with some storms by the middle to end of this month. Hopefully, they're cold storms and we continue to fish

Lake Tahoe Fish Report

Guide Rick Kennedy hit the lake last week and reported decent fishing for mackinaw on the east side of the lake in 30 feet of water, with the water temperature averaging 38 to 40 degrees. The bite has been pretty consistent for the macks, averaging two to five pounds, using spoons and F16 Rapala’s. Saturday, Kennedy fished off Dollar Point and caught some bright rainbows

Fishing is good to very good for mackinaw in the two to six pound range. Dodgers or flashers and minnows offered between 100 and 200 feet will get macks.
