Continued warm Fall weather on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Continued warm Fall weather on the Truckee River. Unseasonable warm weather. Hopefully, we can get some cooler rainy weather. The fly fishing ain’t bad on the Truckee River, but it should be better. It’s just that ridge of high pressure parked off the coast. Warm sunny days. That being said, flows are still pretty good. Im surprised we have this much water in the river, it being

Toads are taking over!

by RENO FLY FISHING OUTFITTERS
These are images from the last season, but this year it started early! Huge Lahontan cutthroat trout is taking over Pyramid Lake! Are you a beginner? Well, we have it all together for you: ladders, flies, guides and even lunch by Traeger Grills! Here’s what we got for the next clinic: “We hope everyone is enjoying the fantastic weather we are having this fall. The fishing

We’ve had some great reports out of Pyramid once again this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We’ve had some great reports out of Pyramid once again this week, and the name of the game continues to be jigging heavy streamers 40-60 feet down and locating the bait balls of Tui Chubs. We don’t expect this bite to last too much longer however as these bait balls typically will break up some time in November, so if you have a boat or

Fish continue to hold in a variety of water types right now

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
While the flows are really low along the upper river from Lake Tahoe through the town of Truckee, the Little Truckee confluence below Boca Reservoir has remained around 300 CFS, keeping the canyon section flowing well. There is still a wide variety of bugs you can toss this time of year and just in the last week we’ve done well on stoneflies, worms, eggs, BWO’s,

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level is low. The Douglas County day use and boat ramp is open. The NDOW planted the lake recently with 4000 rainbow trout. Green powerbait has been most productive for shore anglers. Trollers have been using flashers and worms and the occasional Raplala.

We’ll go through the first part of the clinic learning the Euro rigs, or Tight Line rigs. The second part. we’ll do streamers- with our tight line leader we’ve already set up. The 'Mid is Hot, Let's Go!

by BEARFISH ALLIANCE STAFF
The opener wasn't the glory all what we were wishing for, but in the matter of less than a week things have turned up. Still have to fish deep, but over the next few weeks they should shallow up a little bit. Regardless we are out hunting for these pigs with deep water jig methods, and the fish are hitting hard and most are in

Wall Canyon Fisheries Project

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
In this week's Nevada Wild, we introduce you to NDOW's new Western Nevada Fisheries Biologist Sam Sedillo. Sam fills Nevada Wild hosts, Ashley Sanchez and Aaron Keller, in on his background and passion for fish! He tells us about the projects he's been working on since beginning his position at NDOW in March. He also highlights a major project near Wall Canyon Reservoir to protect a unique

The season at Pyramid has started off well

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The season at Pyramid has started off well for the boat anglers, and we’ve seen an increase in fly fishers getting out on boats early season using heavy weighted Tui Chub patterns fished on fast sinking lines and searching for the bait balls of these fish and subsequently the LCT’s engorging themselves on the Chubs. As expected, we’ve seen a few 20 pound fish caught

The Truckee has seen a drop in flows this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee has seen a drop in flows this week, and the upper river is far too low for ethical fishing. The dam at Tahoe City is flowing at a whopping 10 CFS and by the time you get down to Glenshire Drive flows are just 32 CFS. This will mean that most of the river up here will have little to no flow and

Fishing season at Pyramid Lake has begun

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Fishing season at Pyramid Lake has begun. Lots of options here. For boat anglers, the east shore is fishig the best. Boat anglers should troll in 80 feet of water with apex lures, lyman lures, and rapalas. There is also a great jig bite here. The bite is right at the 100 foot water column and as the day progresses, anglers will notice the bite

Flows on the South Fork of the Humboldt are very low

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Flows on the South Fork of the Humboldt are very low and fishing is difficult except in the pools. Flows above the reservoir are almost nonexistent. Flows are better below the reservoir and fishing is fair there. Fishing dries in the stream should produce a few trout and streamers and nymphs in the pools are also working. As of September 30, the South Fork of

2022 Pyramid Lake Opener Update

by BEARFISH ALLIANCE STAFF
This year's Pyramid Lake opener opened up in a fury, with large numbers of fly anglers, conventional anglers and boaters descending upon lake in pilgramage fashion. From the incredibly long boat ramp line, campers on beaches, and more float craft than we have seen in years, it was a busy day to start the much anticipated season. With all the hype around the opener you

Fall fly fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Good fishing and great weather. Maybe a little too great with the weather, lol. High’s in the low 70’s, perfect blue bird days. Us fly anglers, always like some clouds and rain. I’ll take this weather any day though, soon it will be cold. Flows have just dropped some out of Boca Reservoir. 388 cfs here in Hirschdale this morning. Down from 450 cfs, last week.
