The water levels continue to drop at Cave Lake

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The water levels continue to drop at Cave Lake in an anticipation of renovation efforts on the dam in this year. The lake is closed to fishing at this time.  NDOW conducted a fish salvage in December and moved some very nice brown trout ranging in size from eight to 25 inches into Comins Lake. A few of the larger brown trout were pushing seven

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Not a lot of change from last week though flows have dropped in streams north of I80 and stayed the same south of I80. Expect springtime driving conditions with frozen roads in the morning but muddy on the way out once it warms up. Access is iffy to many of these waters. As of February 11, Cleve Creek was flowing at 4.9 cfs.

The ice at Comins is ranging between 10 and 15 inches

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
No change here.  The ice at Comins is ranging between 10 and 15 inches of good hard ice, averaging 13 inches.  There are some slick spots with the warm afternoons melting the surface and then refreezing overnight. Traction devices on boots are recommended.  While the fishing was slow at the Ely Rotary Club Ice Fishing Derby, anglers continue to report fair to good fishing for

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The road into the lake has been plowed and in good shape.  There is eight to 13 inches of good ice with some slick ice on the surface.  Traction devices on boots are recommended.  No recent report from anglers but expect good fishing for trout in the 12 to 15-inch range.  The usual nightcrawlers or PowerBait should work here as well as dark colored soft

As of January 28, Steptoe Creek was flowing at 1.9 cfs

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Not much change here as many streams are still mostly covered in ice with open water where flows are faster. Shorelines are snow and ice covered and very slippery. If fishing these streams, fish the ice edges. Access is iffy to many of these waters so leave a trip plan and be prepared to spend the night. With colder water temperatures expect stream fishing to

by LIZ WEIRAUCH
24cfs, a perfect time to see where the holes are! Golden stones moving, black midges 18-20 and BWO are coming off. No lips to be seen so nymph it. Top fly a streamer … they are getting hungry! The afternoon ‘lajar’ (ice melt from waters above) should be minimal in these next days … since most should be already melted and not freezing with these

Fishing has changed quite a bit out at the lake

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fishing has changed quite a bit out at the lake. We are seeing the typical transition the LCT make every year where they begin to focus heavily on midges and begin to make their way into shallow water to feed. With the high pressure and blue-bird weather, fishing has been inconsistent. Some days have great numbers, others are producing few fish but good quality, and

The trout are feeding heavily and putting on weight

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee river is flowing at 250 cfs through the downtown gauge that is well below the median for this time of year (400 cfs). The river is in really good shape as the weather has kept the river temperatures above freezing at night and ending the day in the low 40’s. The trout have responded to the increased temperatures and they are feeding heavily

by DOUG BUSEY

With more day time sun, the fish are a little more active. Shore fishing has been spotty. Best action has been on the east shore in the park or over past

I talked with one angler that said he was at the last stocking and there was no one out trying to catch the rainbow trout that were being stocked. We are
