Nevada Fish Reports

Flows have some back down from the big monsoon last week

by MATT KOLES
A new year on the Truckee River. Good news, it's raining and snowing again. If this keeps up, we'll have another great water year. Flows have some back down from the big monsoon last week. Around 600 cubes here in Hirschdale and a little higher down on the Nevada side. Great Winter flows. Somewhat mild out and should stay that way though the weekend. Good time to

The reservoir is 80 percent covered in very thin ice

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The boat dock has been removed from the water for the winter. The reservoir is 80% covered in very thin ice with very little open water accesible. All ice should be considered unsafe at this time. If ice conditions become safe, trout fishing should be good for fish between 16″ and 22″.

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

Had to share a trout stocking photo—and yes, that’s me standing next to the truck as it delivers a beautiful plant of rainbow trout. The Willow Beach Hatchery, a federal facility, brought us these fish, and their crew does a great job raising and transporting trout for our anglers to enjoy. Our stocking sites include Rotary Park, Community Park, and Davis Camp. Due to low water

Recent high winds and rain have deteriorated most of the ice that formed

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The boat dock has been removed from the water for the winter. Recent high winds and rain have deteriorated most of the ice that formed throughout the month. Any ice should be considered unsafe at this time. Open water fishing is good for trout between 16″ and 22″. Shoreline anglers are having luck with PowerBait or night crawlers fished off the bottom. Fly anglers are

Cave Lake is open water with thin ice around the perimeter that may prohibit shoreline fishing

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Cave Lake is open water with thin ice around the perimeter that may prohibit shoreline fishing. There is good shoreline access from the day-use area of the Park. There was 8,039 rainbow trout, averaging 9 inches stocked this fall. Anglers should expect to catch hatchery stocked trout, however, there is a chance that you can catch a trout carried over from previous years.  Anglers will catch trout

Comins Lake has lost almost all the ice that was built in late November and early December

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Comins Lake has lost almost all the ice that was built in late November and early December.  There is some ice still left in the narrows which would limit boat access to the north lake.  Shoreline access along the western shoreline should provide good opportunity to anglers. Fall stocking is complete with 10,059 rainbow trout averaging 9.1 inches being stocked. Additionally, the lake received 3,677

Illipah Reservoir is completely open water

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Illipah Reservoir is completely open water.  Shoreline fishing is available at the old dam and just north of the old dam. A total of 5,715 rainbow trout, averaging 8.6 inches was stocked.  Angler drop box surveys show rainbow trout  in the 10-to-14 inch range being caught.  A few brown trout have been contacted, normally between 6 and 10 inches, however, one angler recent caught a

East Walker River Fishing Report

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The California side of the EW is closed for Winter, just the Nevada side is open now. The fishing down here has been overall fairly slow though there are still a few fish being caught. The traffic has been pretty slow down there so we haven't really been getting very many reports, most of the anglers we have spoken with have been telling us that

The lake has yet to really switch on as we’ve seen a few good days here and there

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The lake has yet to really switch on as we’ve seen a few good days here and there, but nothing consistent. With the funky start to the winter, the standard beaches and methods to fish them for this time of year have kind of gone out the window. If you’re heading out here, it may be a good time to explore some of the lesser-known

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The fishing on the Truckee over the last week has been pretty slow. We speculate that this is because of the cold days we’ve been having lately. The water is also very clear, and this doesn’t typically help the angler much either as it makes the fish even more wary and more likely to key in on the small bugs.    With this said, focus on fishing

It's Trout Season!

by RUSTY
We have some exciting river news to share! Along the shores of the Colorado River, below the Davis Dam, it's trout season. We're receiving rainbow trout from the Willow Beach Hatchery, and this crew knows how to raise some great fish. Local angler Jerry Ward came in with a limit of rainbows he landed at Community Park. He was fishing from shore using a trout

Lots of things about to happen on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
We're moving out of our stagnant weather pattern and going right into full blown Winter. Storms will be warm to start, but looking like a white Christmas. Thank God, everyone in Truckee pretty much has environmental anxiety. That's a real thing. No snow is not good.  Remember, it doesn't snow to much down here in Hirschdale, and hardly ever down on the Nevada side of the

The fishing has still been good for mackinaws and rainbows

by DOUG BUSEY
The fishing has still been good for mackinaws and rainbows. When the weather holds out. Another gift idea. Go to rubyjeancharters.com and buy a gift certificate for that special angler, or anglers in your life. Jason can take out parties of 2 to 6 people. Another great stocking stuffer.

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
I took one of my old coworkers Jeff Jeffress from TRE fishing with me this week. We started at 9:30 and fished until 3. The early morning bite was very good for 1.75 to 2.0lb rainbows. We got 6 fish to the boat and lost one that was much bigger. We also caught a very nice small mouth bass about 2-3 lbs. All fish were

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

Attention all trout anglers! Community Park is active with another trout plant. These fish come from the federal hatchery at Willow Beach, and the crew there is doing a fantastic job raising them for our anglers to catch. With the low water release from the Davis Dam, Community Park is the best spot for these rainbow trout. Local angler Steve Beasley brought in a limit of

It is windy and cold, and that means the ancient lake is fishing well

by THE FLY SHOP
It is windy and cold, and that means the ancient lake is fishing well. The Lahontans are eating Tui chubs for the time being. Good flies would be Zach's Pyramid Minnow in Tui chub and white. Balanced Leeches tied in lighter colors can work as well. From here on out you can fish the big midges and Balanced Leeches. This season is looking to be
