Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Since the last big storm event we have seen flows stabilize, but it did take longer than we had initially thought due to warm overnight temperatures prolonging melt. With air temps dipping this week, we should see flows continue to trend downwards and water clarity improve. As of today, the river is still running high and there is a tint to it, but this is

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
I had to use an old picture of myself cruising the Colorado River, but this way you’ll know what I look like. So when you catch some of the trout that are being planted at Community Park, bring them in and I can get a picture of you and include it in the fish report. The Willow Beach Hatchery is providing us with some great rainbow

The mackinaw fishing has been very good

by DOUG BUSEY
The mackinaw fishing has been very good. I spoke with a long time friend Sean Luscombe from Carson City Nv. He has been fishing with a friend and doing very well for good sized mackinaws. Best areas have been the Tahoe shelf, Rubicon Bay or the area between Camp Richardson and Emerald Bay. Best attractant was a dodger and a live minnow. Some have had

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
I fished the lake this week. I have to tell you, the lake is within a few feet of being full capacity. The water is almost at the top of the Douglas County Parks department launch ramp. The lake was still and calm. I trolled for 4 1/2 hrs for trout and got only a couple hits. I threw every pattern and size variation I

The reservoir is fully open water and the boat ramp at the State Park is back in the water

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The reservoir is fully open water and the boat ramp at the State Park is back in the water. Caution is necessary when navigating the shallows due to low water levels. Trout fishing is typically great right after the ice off. However, fish are still moving slowly in the cold water, so be sure to stick to slow presentations. Balanced leeches, woolly buggers and chironomids

The east side boat dock is back in the water and the ramp is open for the season

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The east side boat dock is back in the water and the ramp is open for the season. Anglers are seeing plenty of trout action near the dam. Mid-morning through early afternoon is best for trout fishing, with reports of fish up to 5 lbs. Balanced leeches and woolly buggers are the go-to flies for fly anglers. Orange PowerBait or worms floated off the bottom

Truckee River Fishing Report

by MATT KOLES
Winter feels over, at least for the time being on the Truckee River. Damn near hit 60 already in Truckee.  Unfortunately all the snow we got last week is gone. The rain took it away. The Truckee River is, "up," as a result. I reckon Winter will return and remind us it's still too early for Spring in the mountains.  March is a great month on the

Things are starting to change up on the EW

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The California side of the EW is closed for Winter, just the Nevada side is open now. With the much warmer weather we've been getting things are starting to change up on the EW. The flows have been increasing do to some early run-off and are sitting at about 251 cfs today, depending on the upcoming weather this could change either up or down from day

Fishing is heating up on the Colorado River below Davis Dam!

by RUSTY
Fishing is heating up on the Colorado River below Davis Dam! Our local angler Kerim Gulerysuz was out in his small boat near Community Park and landed an absolute beast — a 25.16-pound striped bass measuring just over 38 inches! That’s a thick fish with a serious belly. Typically, a striper pushing that kind of weight is closer to 4 feet long, so this one was built

This storm cycle has really kicked up the bite at Pyramid Lake

by RENO FLY SHOP
This storm cycle has really kicked up the bite at Pyramid Lake with lots of snow, wind, and cloud cover. Fish are keying largely on midge patterns along the sharp dropoff zones as well as the shallower beaches on the right day. When the wind is stirring up the lake, waves have been pretty big- resulting in fish feeding tight to the bank or dropoff.  In

Fishing on the Truckee River has been great in between storms

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fishing on the Truckee River has been great in between storms. With the mild weather leading up to this week, fish were feeding actively on Blue Winged Olives throughout the Nevada side of the river. Water temperatures were hovering around 40 degrees on the lower river which helps quite a bit. It has since cooled so watch things to dip and then improve next week

The bite at Pyramid has been great this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The bite at Pyramid has been great this week. The fishing is good throughout the day, and all presentations have been working. We would recommend choosing your method of fishing based on the beach you end up at, or vice versa. If fishing a rocky bottom beach, you would want to avoid using sinking line and streamers and would be best focusing on fishing midges

The fish will continue to hold in slow, deep runs

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The fishing on the Truckee slowed down quite a bit this week when compared to the previous month of dry, warm days. When looking at the conditions, the flows have yet to change much and water temps have dropped but not plummeted. When theorizing why the bite slows down so drastically despite any major shift in the tangible variables, we often just simplify it by

The reservoir is ice free

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The reservoir is ice free, but water levels remain low and water is turbid. Fishing is slow.

Some unsafe ice reported at the boat ramp and parts of the collection ditch

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Some unsafe ice reported at the boat ramp and parts of the collection ditch. Harrison Pass is expected to be impassable after this week’s storms, Secret Pass is recommended. Anglers fishing the collection ditch are reporting fair to good angling for trout, with fish over 20 inches being reported. Fly anglers are reporting success with streamers, leeches and nymphs. Small, flashy spinners like Panther Martins

The reservoir is still in a state of some open water and some thin, soft, and unsafe ice

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The reservoir is still in a state of some open water and some thin, soft, and unsafe ice. We do not recommend venturing on to any ice at this time, even in the Hendricks and Penrod Arms. ICE SAFETY WARNING 2/12/26 – Wild Horse Reservoir  Current ice conditions at Wild Horse Reservoir are not considered safe.  We recommend staying off any remaining ice at this time. Ice continues to deteriorate with the warmer temps leaving many open

Most of the reservoir is ice-free

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The dock at the main boat ramp is still removed for the winter. Most of the reservoir is ice-free, but there may be very thin ice in some of the coves.  Do not attempt to venture onto the ice. Trout fishing has been good mid-morning into the afternoon on sunny days. Fish are hitting combinations of PowerBait and worms fished off the bottom, as well

We've started to get a few reports from the Nevada side lately

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The California side of the EW is closed for Winter, just the Nevada side is open now. We've started to get a few reports from the Nevada side lately, some days have been pretty good while other days have not been so good. On the good days it sounds like they're eating small midge patterns like zebra midges, pheasant tails, hare's ears, perdigons, copper johns,

It’s true, the lake is fishing well this week. Finally!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
It’s true, the lake is fishing well this week. Finally! The dropping pressure, overcast skies, wind and precipitation have done a lot to make the fish more active. Not just in the morning either, the bite has been pretty good all day!   As we head into mid-February we have seen the midge be the most consistent bug for under the indicator, but we found a few

Waiting on the storm

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
With little precipitation as of today, we have not seen a significant change in flows on the river just yet. The water temps also haven’t changed either, surprisingly. Despite these facts, the river has slowed down over the week compared to the last month of fishing during the false spring. This will change even more drastically this week as we begin to see multiple days
