Nevada Fish Reports

The fish have really woken up this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The fish have really woken up this week. Water temperatures have begun to finally trend upwards and exceed 45 degrees around Farad, and 48 degrees around Sparks, NV. These warmer temps with less fluctuation throughout the day has initiated the spawn down the hill, and this week we’ve seen quite a few spawning redds pop up. We encourage anglers to give the lower river a

Pyramid Lake has fished well through the first part of April

by RENO FLY SHOP
Pyramid Lake has fished well through the first part of April. The our extended winter has kept fish close to ledges and drop offs while feeding on a variety of food sources. We are finally starting to see fish cruise along shallow areas as they prepare to spawn. Typically, this migration into shallow water occurs in the early to middle parts of March. This year

Fly fishing on the Truckee River has been great over the last week

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fly fishing on the Truckee River has been great over the last week. Water clarity has been in the three to five foot range. Most days, the river has had a slight green tint which seems to improve fishing. With the warming trend over the last few days, water temperatures have crept up on a daily basis and are now peaking between 45 and 50

Pyramid has really switched on this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Like the river, Pyramid has really switched on this week as well, and the fish here are showing signs of being in pre-spawn. Beaches such as Pelican, Windless, North Nets located around the middle of the west shore have seem to been fishing very well as fish school up heavily around there “natal waters” I.E. where they are stocked. Windless and North Nets will be

Hinkson Slough has been fishing well

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Hinkson Slough has been fishing well. The best flies for retrieving seem to be the same dark buggers and leech patterns that always work. Midge larva under strike indicators will just about always work when trout are active. Bass fishing will start to pick up as soon as we get ta little warm weather.

How about some striper news and from the shores of the Colorado River. This striper was landed by Larry Felando up near the Davis Dam on the Arizona side. Larry was fishing from shore using a tip water plug he had made and painted. this fish weighed in at 13.06 pounds and was 34 and 1/4 inches a very nice catch. We are getting some of

Mixed bag of good days and slow days out here this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We have seen a mixed bag of good days and slow days out here this week. While there’s certainly fish to be had, the unseasonable weather has seemed to keep fish a bit confused as to what time of year it really is. The midge bite continues to get stronger as the lake temperature warms, and these will be the main bugs for indicator fishing

The Truckee seems to be in transition from winter to spring conditions

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee seems to be in transition from winter to spring conditions. Higher up in the system it’s still fishing very much like early March, small baetis and midges, paired with worms, eggs and stones. Lower in the system it’s feeling a bit more like spring, with good baetis hatches mid-day and a solid streamer bite. There is also a noticeable size discrepancy on the

Snow levels and windy conditions are impacting access

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Access to Ruby Valley remains difficult. The county road has been unpassable due to snow drifts on many occasions. Check road conditions reported by Nevada Department of Transportation (www.nvroads.com) prior to any travel plans. Snow levels and windy conditions are impacting access on the county road to the Refuge and access around the refuge is also very limited.  No recent reports from anglers due to

Cold Weather Doesn't Slow These Lahontans Down

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
Pyramid Lake is the strange anomaly in the trout world; fishing is best during the blistering cold, blustery winter and spring while the rest of the trout world is frozen over. We love it, and definitely aren’t complaining, and this season has been the longest extended winter season we have seen in a very long time. That is a great thing, as we need the

Still snowing

by MATT KOLES
Still snowing.Probably some more snow next week. 3’rd snowiest Winter on record so far. Understand, when we get a ton of snow in Tahoe, it’s a ton of snow. On the Truckee River, feeling much more like February than March. April will feel more like March. Just gonna be a cold spring. Waiting for that run-off to happen. With this cold weather, gonna be awhile. Pretty descent

We should see our first round stocking very soon

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
We finally have some open water at Baily so we should see our first round stocking very soon. The most consistent way of catching fish at Baily is salmon eggs under the bobber. Fly fisherman slowly retrieving peacock bodied nymphs will find fish just about any time.

Bilk is currently frozen

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Bilk is currently frozen. Fishing will slow considerably at Bilk with the winter and ice. Look for stocking to begin again this spring.

Lake Mohave Fishing Report

by ARIZONA GAME & FISH DEPARTMENT
At Lake Mohave, in another article in the Mohave Valley Daily News, Rusty Braun reported that local angler Mark O. was fishing from his boat and trolling in the Telephone Cove area and landed a couple of nice stripers. He was using a tommy trout lure to land an almost matched pair of 8-pound stripers (one was a touch over and the other a touch

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Pyramid continues to be a bit spotty this week, which is a bit surprising given the time of year. The water temps out here jumped up a few degrees this week, going from 42 to 49 degrees over the last 2 weeks, and we are hopeful that this should help the cause, making fish more active throughout the day. Yet today (Friday morning) the lake

These storms have kept the water temperatures on the river very cold

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Is it Spring yet? Well, technically, yes. However, the grips of this huge winter still don’t want to let loose just yet. Continued unsettled weather over the next week will drop another 6-8 inches on Tuesday and scatted storms throughout the remainder of the week. Will it ever stop? There has even been rumors that the storm window may remain open all the way through

Rolling right through March on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Rolling right through March on the Truckee River. We had a nice break from the weather there for a bit, but now it’s cold and more snow on the way early next week. At least it should be a nice weekend. Who knows the long range. My guess, a colder than average Spring. Flows have come down a lot. Right around 500 and change here in Hirschdale.
