Western Nevada Fish Reports

Pyramid saw some of the best fishing of the year over the last week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Pyramid saw some of the best fishing of the year over the last week as the last storm system pushed through dropping a dusting of snow at lake level. Just a few days ago local angler JD Richey got to hand a 27-pound fish, the biggest fish thus far this year, but there’s no doubt that there’s a good possibility of larger fish swimming around

The Truckee continues to fish in its typical form this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
With daytime highs expected just above freezing this week, we recommend fishing mostly mid-day through the afternoon after the sun hits the water, allowing water temps to come up and both the fish and bugs to become more active. We have another shift in the weather pattern towards the end of the week with a warmer system expected to lay down a mix of rain

Exciting news out of Douglas County!

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Exciting news out of Douglas County! Douglas County, Nevada began working with us in March 2020 to secure a federal grant, which we administer, to supplement the costs of a project to enhance the safe use of boating access facilities at the Topaz Lake Recreation Area. We awarded Douglas County with a grant for $393,000, which was used to install a breakwater device; effectively shielding

Fishing at Pyramid Lake has been amazing

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fishing at Pyramid Lake has been amazing. Still not a huge number of fish, but the quality fish have been really good. We are finding these fish looking for easy meals in somewhat shallower water. Most of the indicator bites have been in less than 9 feet with the most right around 6 feet. Bright midges have been working best. Balanced leeches are starting to

Nymphing has been the primary way that we have been catching trout on the Truckee River

by RENO FLY SHOP
The cold temperatures and snow have made getting to the river difficult. Ice has formed on the river and a few inches of snow remain on the banks that are protected from the sun. It will take a few days of warmer weather and temperatures to get the fish back into a feeding mood, but it won’t be too long.  Before the storms fishing was good

The lake level has come up a foot over the last week

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has come up a foot over the last week. NDOW has planted 1300 lbs of Tiger trout this last week. Fishing was fair for boaters using Rapalas or flashers. Shore angling has been hit and miss. The county ramp is open with some construction going on. Topaz Landing Marina is open for boat launching and Mooring. For more information call 775-266-3550.

It's Time

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
We have had some straight silly days fishing lately. Some days one may never be able to repeat in their lifetime. But what happens when it happens more than once? If this sounds like something up your alley now is the time. The fish are pilled up and chowing, all it take is a little weather and it's game on! Now that the summits are

A little taste of weather and it can make all the difference

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
All it takes is a little taste of weather and it can make all the difference. Emilio with a gorgeous hen on his first day on the water. Numerous days allow anglers to put the puzzle pieces together, and hopefully live up one of those winter days.

Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report & Forecast

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Like a light switch, Pyramid has really turned on with this shift in the weather patterns and this last week has seen some of the best fishing of the year as the low-pressure weather system and the days leading up to the full moon coincided. We expect this weekend to be a bit slower with a few sunny days in the forecast and the waning

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report & Forecast

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee continues to fish very well and while the cold, clear water conditions persist, the bite can be a little tricky in certain stretches, I.E., along 89-south, or in certain spots in Nevada getting de-watered for Reno’s water source/power generating.  So keep a close eye on the flow charts and choose a section where flows remain the most regulated. Our go-to would be the canyon section,

As of February 19, South Fork of the Humboldt was flowing at 10 cfs

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Not much change here as many streams are still mostly covered in ice due to overnight temperatures in the teens. Flows are similar to last week and shorelines are snow and ice covered and very slippery. Access is iffy to many of these waters due to springlike muddy conditions, so leave a trip plan and go prepared to spend the night. With colder water temperatures

Great Fishing on Tahoe Today

by HANS MOXLEY
Great fishing today guys !!! bit on the cold side but worth it.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) is excited to announce the development of a new trail that improves access to a portion of state land along the Truckee River in Sparks. NDOW partnered with the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail, Nevada Division of State Lands, Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space, and Granite Construction to complete the new trail system in an undeveloped, underused area that connects

Pyramid is already in full swing

by RENO FLY FISHING OUTFITTERS
Pyramid is already in full swing. The reports are fantastic from all over the lake. Both big fish and numbers of fish are being caught. The next two months are going to be awesome. The lake leve is down around three feet from last spring. The importance of that is that the fish have adjusted some to new locations, the beaches have different depths to

by RENO FLY FISHING OUTFITTERS

The BWO’s are starting to get into full swing with fish coming to the surface in the afternoons. Run indicator rigs in the mornings with a San Juan worm or a Skwala nymph and a BWO or midge trailing. As

Much of the same still here on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Much of the same still here on the Truckee River. If you like 60’s in Truckee in February, well this is for you. Will it snow again. I certainly hope so. Flows and weather have largely stayed the same since the beginning of January. It was warm this week. When is the pattern going to change? We need some more snow or it’s going to be a
