Our favorite lake opens up November 2nd to the public. As of now we aren’t taking bookings any sooner than our original November 30th date. We are still waiting on the tribe to issue guide permits so we are putting that off a bit until we get the green light. If anything changes we will let you know. We are ready to go! Until then

Good Solid Fall Fishing on The Truckee

by MATT KOLES
Good solid fall fishing on the Truckee River. We’ve had mild weather for the most part. Nothing exciting weather wise yet. Cold nights, mild afternoons. Be great to see some rain. Cold today, but it’s going to warm back up this week again. Flows are great. Could be really low right now, but they’re still up around 400, from Boca on down. I’ve been mainly out East on

Euro and Indicator Nymphing Have Been Proving to Be Successful

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
With cooler temps in the air, the fishing has been good. Truckee River is being released from Tahoe around 120 CFS. Anglers are fishing well with caddis, blue winged olives, october caddis, and there is some streamer fishing as well now that the water is up. Euro nymphing and indicator nymphing are also proving to be successful methods for anglers as well.   FLOWS: Tahoe City 124

Finally Some Seasonable Temps

by MATT KOLES
Finally some seasonable temps. Switched to fall this weekend on the Truckee River. Cold overnight lows, and mild afternoons. Enjoy it while it lasts. Flows continue to remain good for mid-October. Surprised, we have this much water coming down. About 440 cfs here. So good flows everywhere below Boca. Skinny up top, anywhere above the inlet at Boca towards Tahoe City. Your best nymphing now will be mid-morning

Pyramid Lake Update

by DOUG BUSEY
There has been some controversy on when the lake may open this fall. The lake usually opens on October 1st, but as of now they are still closed to all non tribal members. You may also want to visit their website.  The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe has also considered raising the day use fishing permit to $30. Another proposal was to raise the fee 25

Flows Have Been Bouncing Around A Bit

by RENO FLY SHOP
320 CFS today at the downtown gauge, flows have been bouncing around a bit. Largely due to the end of irrigation season and the turning off the diversions into ditches. Fall is in full swing and the trees have begun to turn. This is often the start to some of the best fishing on the Truckee River and our surrounding waters. While we have seen several caddis

Tahoe Topliners at Lake Tahoe

Truckee River is Fishing Best Below Boca

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
The Truckee River is fishing best below the Boca Reservoir because of the higher flows. Upper river has minimal flows around 70 cfs. If you are fishing upper river, there is some dry fly activity with blue winged olives. Below Hirschdale, caddis and October caddis are working best. Some other patterns to try are crawdads, streamers, and small stone flies. FLOWS: Tahoe City 76 CFS, Glenshire

Hot in the Afternoons, Cold in The Mornings on The Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Continued warm weather. Hot in the afternoons, cold in the mornings on the Truckee River. We need us a change in the weather. Looks like we might get something later in the week. Something is better than nothing. Fishing has been more like September, and less like October. Hopefully, that changes. If we could get some weather, would turn things on a bit. Get some brown trouts

Fishing at Topaz Has Been Doing Very Well

by DOUG BUSEY
Water level is down. Fishing is doing very well due to the NDOW planting 3800 trout last week. trollers have done well with just trolling black and silver Roostertail lures. Blades and a crawler has also been productive.  Shore anglers have been using power bait with a short leader. Beware of the smoke that may creep back in this weekend. NO campfires anywhere!

We Can't Ask For Better Fishing Conditions!

by RENO FLY SHOP
Truckee River  The Truckee River is flowing near 300 cfs at the downtown gauge and river temperatures are perfect, starting the day in the high 50s and ending in the mid 60s. We cannot ask for better fishing conditions! Fishing has been a little sporadic, but overall good. Late morning starts have been the most productive nymphing and using streamers. We’re still focusing on sizes #14-#18

Truckee is Fishing Great Right Now

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
The US Forest service has lifted closures on forest lands after being closed last week. The Truckee river is fishing great right now because of the cooler temperatures moving in. The flows in the Upper Truckee River are slow and shallow, until you get near the Hirschdale Canyon. The best flows run from here until the Nevada state border. Anglers top choices should be large

Heading Into Fall

by MATT KOLES
Heading into Fall. Summer ain’t got much left. Fishing is good on the Truckee River. Flows have got real skinny above Boca. Below Boca and down through Nevada, flows are about just right for Fall. The whole lower river is fishing very good. Cool to cold nights, warm afternoons, and a pretty good bite throughout the day. Fish softer water early when it’s cold, fish the faster water

Streamer Clinic, October 3rd.

by MATT KOLES
Streamer Clinic, October 3rd. Learn to catch fish on streamers in the Truckee River. Learn a different way to fish streamers than what is traditionally taught. Learn a hybrid leader system you can streamer fish and tight line nymph with. A hybrid Euro streamer system. Oftentimes we catch more fish on streamers then we do on nymphs. That’s during the right time of year. Fall, and Winter,

Truckee River Fishing Report

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Because of US National Forest closures in California, parts of the Upper Truckee River are closed for fishing. If it is on forest land, please do not fish in that area. The flows in the Upper Truckee River are currently minimal due to the restoration currently happening. The best flows are below the Boca Reservoir. With cooler nights here, the water temperatures are getting cooler
