Western Nevada Fish Reports

Topaz Lake Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Pressure is light but fishing has been good for those getting out. Anglers spending a half day get limits plus. Trout are averaging 14 inches. Trolling is the best way to go. Use Needlefish or Rapalas (black and gold, rainbow or perch) along the edges. Shoreline fishing is very slow because the wind is limiting casting. (775) 266-3550

Truckee River Fish Report, March 19, 2012

by MATT KOLES
I'm sure everyone in Tahoe today was shredding pow except for me, I guess. They had to get 6-7 feet up along the crest, all good, as we need it. Hirschdale, and farther East, except for Mt Rose, didn't get to much. We got about 6" inches here in the Hirsch. Access from Boca on down to Nevada is not an issue. The Truckee River

Lake Tahoe Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Mackinaw fishing has been good around Dollar and Cal/Neva points. Many limits of 4 to 8 pound macs and a few in the 9 to 12 pound class have been coming in. Anglers fishing 150 to 250 feet of water have had the most success with a dodger blade followed by a live minnow. Top lining has been hot and cold, a few browns in

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Weekend fishing was productive. Not a lot of big trout but stringers of 1.8 pound trout were common. Trolling with Needlefish is productive. Wind kicked up early in the week. Rain is expected by mid-week and wind is supposed to continue through the week.  (775) 266-3550

Weather Report for the Truckee River fishing

by MATT KOLES
Things are actually pretty dry here on the East side, Hirschdale, and down below through Reno. The wind has been a bummer this week though, seems like it always is this time of year. The West side is getting pounded, rain and snow, or, everything West of Donner Summit. The Truckee River is in good shape, I'm surprised, I thought these storms would blow it

Spawning Time on the Truckee

by MATT KOLES
Most of the rainbows are colored up, and some are on their beds down on the Nevada side of the Truckee River. Haven't seen any spawners yet on the Cali side, but with they days getting longer, it shouldn't be long. If you do see fish spawning, usually in the tail-outs of runs, or shawel gravel bars, leave them alone. If you happen to be

Steady mackinaw fishing continues. Macks in the four-to-eight pounds come from Cal-Neva and Dollar points. Depth range from 180 feet to 300 feet. Toplining has been slow. Gene St. Denis. Blue Ribbon Fishing (530) 544-6552

Truckee River Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
The catch-and-release section east of Truckee has been fishing well. Glenshire to the state line has been productive. Access is more difficult when it’s snowing.  (530) 587-4844

Trout are in deeper water. Start at 20 feet and be ready to go deeper. Trollers use black/gold, perch or rainbow CD-7 Rapalas. Shore fishing is less productive but it’s best on the north shore early and then on south shore later. (775) 266-3550

The fishing at Pyramid is starting to show some signs of improvement & signs big fish later

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
There have been a few 5-10 fish days reported over the past week. The water is still cold in the mid 40's but we have had some warmer weather. As spring approaches longer days and warmer weather will bring the water temperatures up and the fish will start to get the urge to spawn. When this happens the fishing will ultimately improve over the next

Better access means better fishing on the Truckee River

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
This has been one of the best winters on the Truckee in a long time. Access has been the biggest reason. With about a 30% snowpack in the Sierras, we have had little to no fluctuations in the flows and parking near the river and getting around has for the most part not been an issue. The river has been a little more crowded due

Fish in the 12 to 15 inch range are the norm at Hinkson Slough

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
Reports from last weekend were pretty good. Fish in the 12-15 inch range are common. Hinkson is mostly a Rainbow fishery but you would be surprised what you might catch. Monster Midges a lot like the ones we fish at Pyramid have been working well. You can either fish them on an intermediate line with 6-9 foot leader or under an indicator and hang those

If it stays warm this week, as forecasted, things could pop on the Truckee River.

by MATT KOLES
Blue wings are out in full force on the Nevada side, along with a few skwala stones. It'll probably just take a week of warm weather to get them skwalas on top. Hopefully, the fish will get on top, and we'll see some head's. As far as the streamer fishing, it should be real good here shortly as the water warms a few more degreees.

Pyramid Lake, NV Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Shore fishing is improving. A 17 pounder was landed by a shoreline flycaster. Pelican has been the most productive spot but that also is where most of the pressure is centered. The spawn channel will be opened in the middle of March. (775) 476-0400

Sneaking a day in on the Truckee between storms

by MATT KOLES
Snuck a session with a client in today between storms, on a very cold and windy Truckee River day. We should get a good dumping the next few days. Won't really hurt the fishing as long as it snows, which it will, snow good, rain bad. Access, of course, will be an issue up on the Cali side, but the farther you go

Unbelievable, the weather that is. Feels like Spring in Truckee.

by MATT KOLES
My neighbor informed me that a certain migratory bird has returned back to Hirschdale, the earliest he's ever seen them come back. Winter's over? Fished the Cali side today, still a little tough, but should get better by mid-March as the water warms. Skwala's are out moving around, (in both states) won't be long until we see fish on top munching them. The blue wings

Real Deal Sportfishing had a great day at Lake Tahoe. They catch 8 Lake Trout, largest 10 lbs.

by SPORTFISHINGREPORT.COM STAFF
There was no wind, 65 degrees felt like 70, Tee Shirts and sunglasses. We boarded 8 Lake Trout (Mackinaw). The biggest was 10 Lbs, then 8 Lbs, with the smallest being 3 Lbs. Our photo shows Stan Bennett with 2 of his prized catches.

Lake Tahoe Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Mackinaw fishing is very good. Fish are being found deep (200 to 300 feet deep) because of clear skies. Shrimp are congregating at underwater springs and so are the macks. Good spots have been CalNeva Point, Dollar Point and Sugar Pine Point. Limits of four to eight pounds are routine. Small fish have been scarce. Toplining has been so-so.  Shore anglers at Cave Rock get

Topaz Lake Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Trout fishing is decent, not great. A five-pound rainbow was caught last week by a troller in the south end of the lake pulling a #7 Countdown Rapala. A nine pounder was caught from the shoreline on the south end. Most of the fish are better than a pound. (775) 266-3550
